For other uses of "Mach 4", see Mach 4.

The Mach 4 is an early-generation T-180 featured in the 2008 Speed Racer film. It was driven by Rex Racer while as a part of the Racer Motors team.

Appearance[]

The Mach 4 is red with a white "M" symbol, an inversion of the white with the red "M" seen with the Mach 5 and Mach 6. It has the distinguishable trident boom similar to the Mach 5. Its racing number, 4, is white surrounded by a white circle. It has tailfins like the Mach 5, but there is also a third central fin at the back, all connected by a single wing to form a spoiler. The rear fenders also feature what appear to be air intakes or ground effect channels.

Background[]

It was seen in the flashback sequences of Speed's childhood, where Rex used to take him driving at Thunderhead, letting him steer the car while he worked the gas, brakes, and clutch. Rex had also driven the Mach 4 to win the race at Thunderhead, setting the lap record of 9:18.65, beating out Clutch McNally's lap time of 10:01.42.

It is unknown what had happened to the Mach 4 after Rex left the Racer Motors team to race for Uniron.

Toys[]

The Mach 4 was released as a toy in McDonald's Happy Meals, as well as a Hot Wheels car in certain sets based on the film.

Trivia[]

  • In the film, the Mach 4's joint system is on the rear wheels. In the concept art, the joint system is on the front wheels.
