Sonic "Boom Boom" Renaldi

Sonic "Boom Boom" Renaldi is a minor character from the Speed Racer film, and a playable racer in the tie-in videogame.

Appearance[]

Sonic Renaldi's outfit is themed around a chalkboard, with various equations written by chalk all over. This design choice is shared by the car he drives: A grayish-green T-180 named "Chalk-Head", sporting the number 33.

Background[]

Sonic Renaldi is a driver of the World Racing League sponsored by the Gödelian Autonomics team. The character is depicted as one of the many competitors tasked to eliminate Speed Racer by any means necessary at the Grand Prix.

Before the race, he is seen walking together with the driver of the Autobacs team. On the race itself, he is briefly seen in the background next to the Infernal Oil T-180 when Sparky starts talking to Speed. It is likely that he was there in order to plot what he and the Infernal Oil Driver would do together once the race started.

Once the Grand Prix begins, he immediately uses his own car as an obstacle to stop and block Speed´s advance while waiting for his accomplice to ram the Mach 6 from behind. This was useless however, as Racer used the Mach 6's jump jacks to evade the crash, resulting in the car colliding with Renaldi instead.

Surprisingly, both Renaldi and the Infernal Oil driver's cars survive that blunder. Sonic's car is later seen in the aftermath of the destruction of various cars at the Zebra Halls, and later on near the end of the race just after Speed restarts the Mach 6.

Videogame[]

Sonic "Boom Boom" Renaldi also makes an appearance in the videogame. His car in the game has overall good attributes and proves to be a good competitor in all sorts of races. In the game, his ally is Booster Mbube and his rival is Mariana Zanja.
