For other uses of "Mach 6", see Mach 6.

The Mach 6 is a state-of-the-art T-180 racing car driven by Speed Racer in the self-titled film and tie-in video game.

Appearance[]

The Mach 6 is based on the iconic Mach 5 in appearance, right down to the white paintjob with the large red letter 'M' on the bonnet, but with visual cues to make it resemble a IndyCar racing vehicle. In addition to the distinctive trident boom seen on the previous Mach series vehicles, namely the Mach 5 and the Mach 4, it has a set of six circular headlights on top of the side noses, rather than the two units on the undersides as with the aforementioned. It also has six round taillights on the back of the rear fenders. Additionally, like all T-180s, it has an exhaust nozzle as if powered by a jet engine. The joint system on the vehicle's wheels are also shaped like the letter 'M'.

Technical Details[]

This car features auto-jacks like in all T-180 racers, but in its case, it features case-hardened dampeners for added vertical thrust, which means much higher jumps.

The Mach 6's powerplant is a single-forged Bernoulli Convergenator, which is claimed by Pops to be superior to the GRX's inter-positive transponder ("Transponder schmonder," he said, "You want real kick, you go Bernoulli.") Pops had also ran a patch from the starter to the Convergenator that allowed Speed to jumpstart the car by shifting it to fifth gear. The Convergenator's superiority over transponders was proven when Speed drove the Mach 6 at significantly high speeds as to overtake nearly the entire grid and catching up to Grey Ghost and Kakkoi Teppodama in the Grand Prix.

The car also features a custom-designed suspension system whose components are derived from biological sources for a degree of flexibility not seen in factory-built wheels. The chassis is a hand-welded Nitronium cage with octovalve fasteners, plus an outer shell reinforced with sub-molecular metallitizers.

Background[]

Thunderhead[]

The Mach 6 was first seen in the opening race scene at Thunderhead, driven by Speed, who won the race there.

Fuji Helexicon[]

Speed races at the tropical race course in the Mach 6, until he challenged Grey Ghost for first place in a duel of twists and shunts. Grey Ghost pulls a maneuver that made Speed spin out, leaving him vulnerable to the Three Roses' illegal spear hook, resulting in both racers crashing and the Mach 6 destroyed.

Grand Prix[]

After the events of the Casa Cristo race, Speed, Pops, Sparky and family built a new Mach 6 to race in the WRL Grand Prix within a time period of 32 hours, four hours less than the time it takes for Royalton Tower's production plant to assemble a car.

The car and its driver managed to grab the last slot in the Grand Prix and despite the difficulty of the course as well as Royalton’s attempts to destroy it, the Mach 6 and Speed Racer won first place.

Videogame[]

The Mach 6 appears in the Console and Nintendo DS versions of the tie-in Videogame as Speed Racer's T-180.

Console[]

In the console versions, the Mach 6 is available at the start. The car has average stats overall with focus on handling and low strength.

DS[]

In the DS version, the Mach 6 is also available at the start. Its style is described as "All-Around".

Trivia[]

  • The Mach 6 did not exist in the film's original script. The Mach 5 was Speed's T-180 instead.[1]
    • Added to this, concept art of a Mach 5 T-180 can be seen in Wonderful World of Racing: The Amazing Racer Family.
  • The Mach 6's headlights are similar to those of the real life TVR Tuscan Speed Six.
