Speed Racer is the central character from the television series and the film. He is a race car driver, who drives the Mach 5. He is the star of the 1967 TV series and the 2008 feature film of the same name. He helped design and build the Mach 6.

Speed Racer is a young man who's whole life is behind a wheel and on a track.Speed races in the Mach 5(and Mach 6 in the 2008 live action movie). Speed also races to get back at the forces of evil that killed his older brother, Rex Racer who dies when Speed was very young in a terrible race that scares the family even today. In the 1967 anime, Rex has a falling out with Pops and runs away from home, vowing not to come back until he is world champion.

According to Emile Hirsch, who played Speed in the 2008 Speed Racer movie,

Speed is a very, very passionate, serious guy who's completely committed to doing the right thing.[1]

Relationships

Trixie seems to have a crush on Speed Racer in the TV series. This is made more explicit in the movie, with Speed kissing Trixie in the finale.

Speed has two sons: Speed Racer Jr., and X Racer. His son, Speed, would eventually follow in his footsteps and drive the Mach 6. He has a little brother, Spritle Racer. His parents, Mom Racer and his father, Pops Racer, are seen in the show and film. Pops was the one who made the Mach 1 and 5.

Speed Racer makes a cameo appearance in the newest series Speed Racer - The Next Generation.

The original voice of Speed: Peter Fernandez plays the role of the local announcer in Speed Racer (film) and plays both the voice of Spritle and adult version of himself in Speed Racer - The Next Generation.
